New Bass Pro Shops opens

November 16, 2004

A Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World, almost as large as the much-publicized Cabela's that opened in Hamburg last fall, will open in Harrisburg on Nov. 18.

The 225,000-square-foot Bass Pro Shop will be located in Harrisburg Mall at the former site of the Lord & Taylor department store, off the Paxton Street Interchange of I-83.

The store has an 1800s Adirondack Lodge theme and features wildlife mounts, live trout in a stream, a 60,000-gallon aquarium with 200 native fish, rock climbing wall, murals by Pennsylvania artists and antique fishing tackle. A Fine Gun Room features guns from the 1800s to the present for sale and viewing.

For shopping, separate departments are set up for fishing, fly fishing, hunting, archery, clothing, camping, NASCAR, golf, marine and boat.

For more details on the store, go to www.basspro.com.
