IN A NEW YORK MINUTE:
It just might be Colonie's destiny to get fancy mall

February 3, 2005 Thursday

Syracuse isn't the only Upstate city with plans for a new and improved mall.

Colonie Center was sold Wednesday for $82.2 million, the Times-Union reported, and the new owners plan improvements including aquariums and flat-screen television viewing areas.

Feldman Mall Properties of Phoenix, Ariz., said it will spend about $9 million to upgrade the 1.2 million-square-foot, two-level mall, the second-largest in the Albany area.

Company Chairman Larry Feldman said he also hopes to improve the mall's occupancy rate, which now is 82.6 percent. It has about 120 stores, anchored by Macy's, Sears, Boscov's and Christmas Tree Shops.

The deal will be financed from proceeds of Feldman Mall Properties' recent initial public offering, which raised about $144 million.
